Compression Fracture Rehabilitation Program

 

EARLY PHASE

0-Week 1:

avoid flexion, sit-ups, and spinal rotation; AROM of UE anc LE, abdominal isometrics, gluteal and quad sets, no spinal muscle exercises; log¬rolling for be mobility, transfer to chair with assistive device; WBAT with assistive device.

Week 2:

light UE and LE isotonics

 

INTERMEDIATE PHASE

Week 4-8:

avoid rotatory and flexion movements to lumbar soine, no PROM to thoracolumbar spine; acuve extension to thoracolumbar some after 6 weeks; UE and LE isotonics; log-rolling encouraged for bed mobility, weight bearing and ambulation with assistive device.

 

LATE PHASE

Week 8-12:

no PROM to thoracolumbar spine; Active flexion, extension, lateral bending, and rotatory movement to the thoracolumbar spine: trunk and paraspinal strengthening once fracture is healed: independent trarsfer and full WB

Week 12-16:

avoid extreme ROM, acti ve, active assisted, and gentle passive ROM to the thoracolumbar spine; progressive resistive exercises to the paraspinal muscles.
